We recruit student volunteers, who are integral parts of QUIC activities. The QUIC works with close to 80 student volunteers each year.

English Conversation Program
Supports diverse groups of international students, post-docs, research staff, and their spouses/partners. Student volunteers meet international participants weekly to engage in language and cultural learning through English conversation in a small, upbeat, group environment. Why be a Facilitator?

Time Commitment
One academic term, 8 meetings, 1 hour each.
Tasks/Responsibilities
- Support learners in the development of their language and communication skills in both online and in-person environments
- Build a respectful, trusting, and inclusive rapport with session attendees
- Attend program orientation, training sessions, and program meetings
- Share your ideas and engage in activity planning
- Work effectively with peers and a supervisor to contribute to the team
- Participate in program feedback and surveys
- Contribute to promotional materials, such as profiles, testimonials, and videos
Requirements
Successful applicants must be:
- Upper-year students currently enrolled at Queen’s University
- Fluent in English with clear speech and strong communication skills
- Able to effectively engage and encourage others while facilitating conversations, based on previous facilitation experience
- Curious, open-minded, appreciative of diversity, and respectful towards cultural differences
- Passionate about intercultural learning and motivated to develop their own intercultural competence
- Involved in campus communities, clubs, and/or associations
- Able to understand some of the challenges faced by international students experiencing a new culture

World Link Program
An intercultural program that promotes learning, sharing, acceptance, and celebration of diverse cultures within the Queen’s community. The program delivers intercultural learning and exchange through sessions and social activities at the QUIC. More about the World Link Program.
Why Volunteer with World Link?
World Link volunteers work with program staff to assist in social events and cultural exchange sessions to engage students (especially new international students) while sharing their own cultures and learning. Our goals are to support international students in their transition to Queen’s, and to contribute to the university experience of all participants by building community connections and enabling cultural learning. Volunteers assist in social events, host participants, and facilitate conversation and engagement. Social events include movie nights, campus/downtown walks, crafting afternoons, game nights, seasonal cultural events, or walks in nature.

Time Commitment
Your time commitment may be 8–10 hours per term.
Volunteer Responsibilities
- Contribute to online or in-person activities/events organized for the program
- Proactively host and engage event participants
- Build a respectful, trusting, and inclusive rapport with others in the program
- Attend all program meetings and training sessions, and provide program feedback
- Generate social event ideas, and engage in event planning and delivery
- Work proactively in a team to complete project tasks
- Assist in event promotion through student networks
Requirements
Successful applicants must:
- Be familiar with the university and campus life
- Have excellent communication, teamwork, time management skills, and the ability to engage others
- Passionate about intercultural learning and motivated to develop their own
intercultural competence - Be able to understand some of the challenges faced by international students experiencing a new environment and culture
- Be able to effectively use Instagram and other social media, write for promotion and engagement, or photograph events
