Sheep to Yarn Workshop - Kingston Weavers Guild
Date
Tuesday March 31, 20265:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Sheep To Yarn workshop is an introduction to Canadian wool, and how we take sheep fleece and process it into yarn to use for knitting, crochet, weaving, and more. We will talk about how Canadian sheep are raised, how fleece can differ between sheep, and how Ontario grows animals for fiber. We'll show you the difference between washed and raw fleece, and talk about how shearing and washing happen. Next, we will take a look at combing and carding the fibre to line up the hairs and open up the wool. Participants can try carding some prepared fleece. We will go over how to take carded fleece and spin it into yarn, and we will have drop spindles available for a demonstrations. Participants can use a drop spindle and some locally grown wool (provided) to try spinning their first yarn.
