Coronavirus (Covid-19) Resources and FAQs

Will the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) provide coverage for Covid-19?

Yes – since UHIP provides coverage for medically-necessary services in Ontario (i.e. diagnostic testing, hospital and physician services) this includes coverage for COVID 19. For specific COVID 19 coverage and resources call the Sun Life Call Centre at: 1-866-500-8447 (8am-8pm EST). Have your UHIP card with you, as you will be asked for the Policy # and your Member ID.

How can I be tested for Covid-19 (with UHIP coverage):

If you are in Kingston: UHIP is a primary health plan that offers coverage for medically-necessary services in Ontario (i.e. diagnostic testing, hospital and physician services), which includes coverage for COVID 19 testing and care. If you require COVID 19 testing in Kingston, there is an established COVID Assessment Centre that is separate from any clinic or hospital. Be sure to bring your UHIP card (or student card if necessary) with you to the Assessment Centre. To learn more about the protocol for COVID 19 in the Kingston area including the Assessment Centre location and hours of operation, visit: KFL & A Public Health. Other COVID 19 resources can be found at UHIP.ca or by calling the Sun Life Call Centre at: 1-866-500-8447 (8am-8pm EST). Have your UHIP card with you, as you will be asked for the Policy # and your Member ID.

If you are NOT in Kingston, but in another Ontario city: UHIP is a primary health plan that offers coverage for medically-necessary services in Ontario (i.e. diagnostic testing, hospital and physician services), which includes coverage for COVID 19 testing and care. Be sure to bring your UHIP card (or student card if necessary) with you to the COVID 19 Assessment Centre (if applicable) in your area. To learn more about the protocol for COVID 19 testing in your area, review the website of your Public Health Unit. Other COVID 19 resources can be found at UHIP.ca or by calling the Sun Life Call Centre at: 1-866-500-8447 (8am-8pm EST). Have your UHIP card with you, as you will be asked for the Policy # and your Member ID.
