New Collaboration with SASS Academic Support for International Students
International students can now access additional writing and academic support right at the QUIC, on Tuesday nights, 6 – 8 pm (no appointment necessary). Our team at the International Centre is excited to introduce an additional staff member, Agnieszka Herra, who is taking on the role of Intercultural Academic Support Coordinator as it connects with her passion of facilitating student academic transitions. This shared role between the Queen’s University International Centre (QUIC) and Student Academic Success Services (SASS) allows her to build a stronger connection between the units. She will direct students to appropriate academic support services and develop programming to make support services easier to access. She hopes to bring more Intercultural Awareness in academic spaces to the campus as a whole.
Agnieszka spent 4 years in Montreal before moving to Kingston. Agnieszka got an Honours degree in English Literature from Queen’s University in 2007. She then went to Wilfrid Laurier University for her Masters in English. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature in 2014 from Western University. While at Western, Agnieszka fell in love with teaching and educational development. She taught courses in English Literature, Cultural Studies, and Writing at various institutions. She also worked at Western’s Centre for Teaching and Learning. She trained domestic and international Teaching Assistants, evaluated components of the Western Certificate in University Teaching and Learning, and developed teaching resources. She also helped create an Intercultural Communication Certificate for Western’s Modern Languages and Literatures Department.
