Canadian and International Organizations Offering Training in the Field of International Education

Canada - France Exchange: www.culturel.org/etudier/cult_sup/index.html: features information about studying in France, including details about inter-university agreements between France and Canada and exchange programs available for students and teachers between both countries.

CBIE www.cbie.ca: Canadian Bureau for International Education offers training opportunities at its annual conference held each year in November.

CFSI www.cfsi-icse.gc.ca: Canadian Foreign Service Institute bilingual homepage includes information about customized training available in foreign languages, professional development and intercultural studies.

CICIC www.cicic.ca: Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials site that has information on credential evaluations in Canada as well as an inventory of online resources for international post-secondary education.

EAIE www.eaie.org: The EAIE is a non-profit organisation whose main aim is the stimulation and facilitation of the internationalisation of higher education in Europe and around the world, and to meet the professional needs of individuals active in international education.

IEAC www.ieac.ca: International Educators Association of Canada is an association representing individual international educators; IEAC's mandate, among other things, emphasizes the importance of professional development.

ISANA www.isana.org.au: International Education Association is the representative body for international education professionals in Australia and New Zealand who work in student services, advocacy, teaching, and policy development in Australia and New Zealand.

NAFSA www.nafsa.org: The Association of International Educators provide information on workshops and training that they organize.

SIT www.sit.edu: SIT Graduate Institute offers master’s degrees, certificates, and professional development programs on its campus in Vermont and in overseas field sites. Students, faculty, and staff attend SIT from more than 30 countries, including developing nations on five continents, for a range of distinctive graduate programs.UKCOSA www.ukcosa.org.uk/training/index.php: The UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) is the UK’s national advisory body serving the interests of international students and those who work with them.

IETP Publications

Title: Training for International Educators in Canada: A Competency-Based Approach (Wayne Myles and Sherri Corrie)
Price: $25.00 + HST
Description: In the spring of 2004, IETP Director Wayne Myles and private consultant Sherri Corrie completed a research paper which identifies many of the competencies that the various groups of international education professionals possess. The paper divides international educators into three groups with respect to level of competency: “entry level” which includes those with zero to two years of experience in their positions; those at the “mid-career” level typically have two to five years of experience; “senior” international educators have been in the field more than five years, and are typically managers, directors, vice presidents, and presidents who are addressing the questions and challenges of internationalization within their organizations. The competencies--general to international educators, and specific to groups within the field and levels of experience--provide the foundation for the IETP course curriculum. The original publication was revised in the spring of 2008 and the revised edition is now available.
