Enroling in UHIP

All International Students
All international students registered at Queen’s University will be automatically enroled in single person UHIP.
The UHIP fee will be applied directly to the student’s SOLUS account and the payment can be managed in the same method as all other payments to the university. Payment information is available through the Office of the University Registrar.
The fee and duration of UHIP coverage required is determined based on the student’s registration status at the university.
Degree students are enroled in annual UHIP coverage.
- if starting in the fall term, UHIP coverage is valid from Aug.10/2013 to Aug.31/2014
- if starting in the winter term, UHIP coverage is valid from Dec.10/2013 to Aug.31/2014
- if starting in the summer term, UHIP coverage is valid from Apr. 10/2014 to Aug. 31/2014
Non-Degree (ie. exchange) students are enroled in UHIP coverage for each term of their registration.
- if registered in the fall term, UHIP coverage is valid from Aug. 10/2013 – Dec. 31/2013
- if registered in the winter term, UHIP coverage is valid from Dec. 10/2013 – Apr. 30/2014
- if registered in the summer term, UHIP coverage is valid from Apr.10/2014 – Aug. 31/2014
Upon arrival/return to campus, all international students must visit the International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to finalize the UHIP enrolment process and to learn how to activate their UHIP coverage in the on-line card system. This process will provide proof of UHIP coverage, a requirement for all doctor and hospital visits.
All International Students with Dependents
All international students with dependents (ie. Spouse or Children) must visit the Queen’s University International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to enrol or re-enrol their dependents in UHIP within their first 30 days in Canada.
Failure to do so, will result in a $500 late enrolment penalty, plus retroactive UHIP fees. This additional fee will be applied separately to the student’s SOLUS account. The duration of UHIP coverage for dependents will match that of the student’s (as noted above).
All Other Students That Do Not Have Valid Canadian (Provincial / Territorial) Health Insurance
All other students that do not have valid Canadian (Provincial/Territorial) health insurance must visit the Queen’s University International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to enrol in UHIP until proof of alternative approved coverage can be provided.
For visitors, workers, post doctoral fellows (and other non-students)
As a student, if you are left with questions regarding UHIP coverage please see the UHIP website, visit the UHIP desk at the Queen’s University International Centre (QUIC) or contact QUIC’s UHIP Administrator.
