For Students

FOR THE 2012-2013 ACADEMIC YEAR, the NEW registration process is as follows:

ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS registered at Queen's University will be automatically enrolled in single person UHIP. The UHIP fee will be applied directly to the student's SOLUS account and the payment can be managed in the same method as all other payments to the university. For payment information, please review http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/currentstudents/fees.html

The fee and duration of UHIP coverage required is pre-determined based on the student's registration status at the university.

Degree students are enrolled in annual UHIP coverage.

  • if starting in the fall term, UHIP coverage is valid from Aug.10/2012 to Aug.31/2013
  • if starting in the winter term, UHIP coverage is valid from Dec.10/2012 to Aug.31/2013
  • if starting in the summer term, UHIP coverage is valid from Apr. 10/2013 to Aug. 31/2013

Non-Degree students are enrolled in UHIP coverage for each term of their registration.

  • if registered in the fall term, UHIP coverage is valid from Aug. 10/2012 - Dec. 31/2012
  • if registered in the winter term, UHIP coverage is valid from Dec. 10/2012 - Apr. 30/2013
  • if registered in the summer term, UHIP coverage is valid from Apr.10/2013 - Aug. 31/2013

NOTE:  Upon arrival/return to campus, all international students must visit the International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to finalize the UHIP enrolment process and to learn how to activate their UHIP coverage in the new on-line card system.  This process will provide proof of UHIP coverage, a requirement for all doctor and hospital visits.

ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WITH DEPENDENTS (Spouse or Children) must visit the Queen's University International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to enrol or re-enrol their dependents in UHIP within the first 30 days.  Failure to do so, will result in a $500 late enrolment penalty plus retroactive UHIP fees.   This additional fee will be applied separately to the student's SOLUS account.  The duration of UHIP coverage for dependents will match that of the student's (as noted above).

ALL OTHER STUDENTS THAT DO NOT HAVE VALID CANADIAN (PROVINCIAL / TERRITORIAL) HEALTH INSURANCE, must visit the Queen's University International Centre (Room 117, JDUC) to enrol in UHIP until proof of alternative approved coverage can be provided.
