International Orientation Schedule - Fall 2012

Extended hours of operation from August 29 to September 9, 2012

Weekdays: 8:30 am to 9:00 pm; Weekends (and Labour Day, September 3): 1:00 to 9:00 pm.

Staffed by students after 4:30 on weekdays and throughout the weekends, the Centre is available during these times as a place to relax, meet new friends, access e-mail, watch videos in the Centre’s Lounge, and you are welcome to use our kitchen to prepare evening meals together.

During this period, services include: QUIC/Queen's/Kingston/Canada Information and Housing Information.  UHIP Enrolment is only available during our regular business hours (8:30am to 4:30pm - Monday to Friday).

Social Activities
for those arriving early

QUIC will connect those who choose to arrive early with social and recreational opportunities in the Kingston and Queen's Communities.

This schedule is subject to change.

Light refreshments will be available.

Student Services Walking Tours
10am & 2pm

These tours will focus on the range of services and supports available to students at Queen's. Tours will be led by student volunteers.

Movie Night
7pm

Come by the Centre for a relaxing evening of movie watching.  Popcorn and lemonade will be available.

Trip to Toronto for Baseball Game

This day trip includes:

There will also be time following the game for students to explore downtown Toronto on their own.  Other sites of interest include (but are not limited to) the CN Tower, St. Lawrence Market, Eaton Centre and the Harbourfront Centre.  Tickets will be available for sale at QUIC's front desk for $60 (cash only).

International Exchange Orientation
10 - 11:30am

What will help make my time at Queen's and in Canada successful and enjoyable?  Maybe it's immigration rules.  What opportunities are open to me as an exchange student?  Can I work?  What should I know about travelling in Canada and the United States?

The session will cover the issues that you want discussed and will be facilitated by the International Student Advisor and guests.

International Undergraduate Orientation
8:45 - 9:45am

This is your chance to meet other first year international students and together to learn more about the culture of Queen’s with the help of the International Student Advisor and guests.

- Canadian immigration regulations (Study Permits, Work Permits, etc.);
- Income Tax (Did you know that you can get money from the Canadian government, even without an income?);
- Health Insurance (The coverage included in the mandatory University Health Insurance Plan);
- and anything else we can!

QUIC

International Graduate Orientation
5:30 - 7:30pm

This is an interactive session.  Participants will have the opportunity to explore issues that typically arise for graduate students and to become familiar with how resources and support services contribute to student success.  The session begins with refreshments and the opportunity to socialize with staff and other students.

The session will be facilitated by QUIC’s Assistant Director with representatives of the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), the Society of Graduate and Professional Students (SGPS) and the SGPS Peer Advisors.
