International Welcome and Orientation

QUIC offers extended hours of operation and various activities for newly arriving international students and staff.  These include activities for those who choose to arrive to Kingston early. Our program is meant as an addition to the orientation options that are available to students, depending on their arrival date and study program. Undergraduate degree-seeking students should also check the Queen’s Orientation website. Graduate degree-seeking students should check with their academic department and the School of Graduate Studies. Invitation to Queen’s SOAR

The SOAR program aims to help ease the transition of incoming first-year students and their families. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about academic expectations, resources, learning strategies, and common student transition issues, as well as meet upper-year students, tour a residence room, and have their questions and concerns addressed. This one-day summer orientation program offers students and families a unique opportunity to: Meet with an advisor to assist you in choosing your courses Connect with peers and develop a campus support network before the fall semester starts Consult with an accessibility specialist, residence staff, or dining hall staff about any academic or living accommodation needs Meet upper-year students in your program and the professors and advisors who are committed to your success Tour a residence building and become acquainted with campus Learn about specific health and wellness supports on campus, including health services, counselling, and accessibility services Prepare effectively for new academic expectations The SOAR program runs throughout the month of July. Beware of fake cheques (and other types of fraud)!

If you receive payments by cheque (or some money orders), the money is not immediately in your account. Students have been cheated in the past by people who send cheques where the money never arrives. Usually, these ‘scams’ involve an overpayment where the scammer expects you to transfer money back to them. If you are asked to return extra funds, or transfer money as part of a ‘secret shopper’ job, be suspicious. At minimum, you should speak to your bank and find out when they can guarantee that the money is in your account. If you have been a victim of fraud like this, we invite you to talk to our Advisers. Income Tax Workshops at QUIC

International students and workers at Queen’s University are supported by QUIC in many ways.   QUIC World Link program invites students for a fun evening of language and culture learning via food sharing.
